In 2017 we were successful in securing funding from the Government’s Tampon Tax Fund to launch a Domestic Abuse service in Central Beds called Stepping Out.
The Stepping Out service aims to ensure equality of access to specialist support for women living in Central Bedfordshire experiencing domestic abuse (or having suffered historical abuse) or sexual abuse, including those that have multiple needs and/or are hard to reach.
The service has specialist staff who, through 1-1 support, advice and advocacy for victims, help women to keep themselves safe, remove themselves from harmful situations and understand their legal rights.
We offer support to cope and recover from emotional trauma, build confidence and enable women to move forward positively with their lives.
Our team is able to offer support through scheduled and unscheduled appointments delivered in various community settings. Whatever your circumstances you’re able to receive confidential free of charge support and practical help from Stepping Stones.
We Currently offer surgeries in the community at;
Shefford Children’s Centre
Central Bedfordshire College
Tuesdays 11-30am-3.30pm ( College Students Only)
Biggleswade Ivel Medical Centre
Further sites/times may be added. Keep watching our website for further updates.
We work closely with Central Beds Council and our team are co-located within the MASH team where we are able to take on cases that do not meet the social care threshold but where women may need help to disclose and escape abusive relationships.
We also take self-referrals so if you would like to attend one of the community based surgeries or speak to one of our team please give us a call on 01582 457114.
