Volunteers

Volunteers are a key part of our team – bringing new skills to the organisation and helping to increase our capacity at a time when demand for our services has never been greater.

However, because of restrictions around Covid-19 we are not taking on volunteers at the current time. We hope to change this as the restrictions ease. Please check back again soon. Check out our Give Support page for other ways you can support us.

Join Our Team of Volunteers

Our paid and voluntary team members are passionate and dedicated. It can be tough working with women who have experienced extreme trauma and can sometimes display challenging behaviour, so we need all our volunteers to be emotionally resilient and able to keep a calm head – whatever service they are supporting.

You don’t need to have a particular qualification or experience to work with us. Most important is that you’ve got the basic skills to help you do a great job and are fully committed to regularly supporting our clients. We would particularly welcome applications from women who have experienced or who have knowledge about similar issues to those of our clients.

We ask our volunteers to give three hours a week of their time for a minimum of six months. In return we’ll fully train you for the role that you’ll be taking on and you’ll join a part of a lively, friendly team. A number of our volunteers have gone on to be paid members of the team and we always actively look to work with volunteers to support their own development and aspirations.

If you think you might be able to volunteer please contact Denise.March-Palmer@steppingstonesluton.org.uk on 01582 457114 to arrange a time to informally drop in to chat about how we might work together. Or please complete the application form and return it to Denise at the above email address or by post to:

Please note:

If you are currently in the UK on a visa/work permit, you may be able to volunteer, although there may be restrictions to the hours that you can volunteer for. However, some visa types will not allow you to volunteer. If you are in any doubt as to what is allowed under the terms of your visa, please contact the UK Border Agency.
